Volunteer Positions

Store positions

Volunteers fill these positions at the Pantry during our store hours. Shifts are available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Due to COVID, all clients remain in their cars and have food brought to them to minimize interactions. The duties for the positions listed below have been modified to accommodate this and will be explained during orientation.

Greeter

Greet clients and ensure that they have a ticket number. Answer questions and help clients up to the interviewer station when called. Volunteers must be able to stand for their shift.

Interviewer

Interview clients, input and review required forms to qualify clients based on the Pantry guidelines and authorize food distribution. Volunteers must be able to stand for their shift and have basic computer skills.

Carrier

Deliver food to the clients’ vehicles. Volunteers must be able to lift approximately 30 pounds.

Meat / Bread Packer

Pack and distribute sweets and frozen meat to clients. Volunteers must be able to stand for their shift.

Client Escort

Escort clients through the shopping area and assist them in selecting food. Volunteers must be able to stand for their shift.

Weight Recorder

Food for each client is weighed before being taken to their cars. The weight recorder updates the clients record with the accurate weight.

"Behind the Scenes" positions

Volunteers fill these positions at various times. Please read the descriptions for service hours.

Shelver

Sort purchased and donated food and stock the food shelves. Shifts are normally Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings.

Shopper

Shop for needed food items at the Second Harvest Food Bank and local stores. Shifts are normally Monday morning.

Cleaning

Clean public and volunteer restrooms, emptying all trash cans; sweeping floors; mopping floors when necessary and wiping down counters. Shifts are normally Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Daily Operations

Staff pantry store during non-client hours to assist with office/clerical work, accept donations, and answer the phone.Shifts are available weekday mornings.

Store Donation Pickup

Pick up surplus bread / bakery and food items at local restaurants and grocery stores. Shifts vary according to the stores, but are normally mornings.Requires additional training

Client Service Prep

Rotate and maintain the inventory of store donations and ready the area for client service. Flexible hours.Requires additional training
